IELTS SPEAKING PART 1 – INTRODUCTION AND INTERVIEW

• Bài thi kéo dài từ 11-14 phút
• Chỉ có giám khảo và bạn trong phòng thi.
• Đối với bài thi IELTS Speaking, giám khảo sẽ đánh giá phần trình bày của bạn qua 4 tiêu chí sau

1/ Fluency and coherence (Tính trôi chảy và mạch lạc)
– Thể hiện khả năng nói trôi chảy của bạn, tránh dùng ‘erm’, ‘er’ or ‘like’
– Dùng các cách sau để có thêm thời gian suy nghĩ:
+ Oh, please give me a minute to think about this topic. I’ve never thought about it before.
+ That’s an interesting question.
+ Wow, that’s a tough one.

2/ Lexical Resource (Vốn từ vựng)
– Dùng cả từ ngữ đơn giản và nâng cao

• Simple vocabulary: My aunt’s cooking is delicious.
• Advanced vocabulary: My aunt’s cooking is mouth-watering/ scrumptious/ delightful
• Simple vocabulary: My sister is beautiful.
• Advanced vocabulary: My sister is stunning/ gorgeous/ drop-dead gorgeous

3/ Grammatical Range and Accuracy (Ngữ pháp đa dạng và chính xác)
– Thể hiện bạn có thể nói chính xác ngữ pháp và dùng được đa dạng các cấu trúc ngữ pháp khác nhau.

4/ Pronunciation (Kỹ năng phát âm)

– Phát âm chính xác

– Lưu ý phát âm âm đuôi (final sounds): /s/, /z/, /ɪz/ và /t/, /d/, /ɪd/

Four rules for IELTS Speaking Part 1

(4 quy tắc cần nhớ trong IELTS Speaking Part 1)

Quy tắc 1: Cố gắng diễn giải, không lặp lại câu hỏi (Try to paraphrase, don’t repeat the question)

Example: Do you like your house? – Yes, I absolutely love my home.

Like = Love

House = Home

Quy tắc 2: Không liệt kê (Do not list)

Quy tắc 3: Trả lời thẳng vào câu hỏi (Answer directly)

+ Đối với Part 1, mỗi câu trả lời có độ dài từ 2-3 câu, ngắn gọn, chính xác về ngữ pháp và thân thiện

Quy tắc 4: Minh họa bằng các ví dụ (Use examples)

Sample answer:

My hometown is in the northern part of Quang Ngai province, and it has a population of around 200,000 people. In the past, it was a quiet place with limited activities and little entertainment. Nowadays, however, it has transformed into a vibrant town, bustling with lively markets and modern supermarkets. What I like most about it is that despite the rapid changes, people are still very friendly, and there’s a strong sense of community.

Or:

My hometown’s in the north of Quang Ngai province, Vietnam, and about 200,000 people live there. Back then, it was pretty quiet and there wasn’t much to do. But these days, it’s turned into a lively town with lots of busy markets and even some big supermarkets. The best part is that people are really friendly, and the community feels very close.

Sample answer:

I have been working as an English teacher for the last 10 years. My job mainly involves preparing and delivering lesson plans. At the moment, I’m working from home. Previously, I was employed at a secondary school. I changed jobs several times in the past. Eventually, I decided to pursue teaching, as I remain passionate about this profession.

Or:

I’ve been teaching English for about 10 years now. Mostly, I make lesson plans and teach them. These days, I work from home. Before that, I used to teach at a secondary school. I switched jobs a couple of times. In the end, I stuck with teaching since I really enjoy it.

Question 16: What do you study?

• I study ________.
• I’m studying for my master degree in _________.
• I study medicine at university as my plan is to become a doctor and work in my hometown.

Sample:

Honestly, I really wanted to be a doctor since I was a child, so deciding to study medicine was a no-brainer for me. I’ve always had so much admiration for healthcare professionals. I’ve always been impressed by doctors’ excellence, their care for patients, and their ability to save lives. My mom is one of them, and I wanted to follow in her footsteps and pursue a career in medicine.

Or:

I have wanted to become a doctor since I was a child. Therefore, pursuing medicine was an obvious choice for me. I have always had deep admiration for healthcare professionals. I have consistently been impressed by doctors’ expertise, compassion, and their role in saving lives. I aspired to follow in my mother’s footsteps and pursue a career in medicine.

Or:

I’ve wanted to be a doctor ever since I was a kid. So for me, choosing medicine was an easy decision. I’ve always really admired people who work in healthcare. I’m always amazed by how skilled doctors are and how they care for and save their patients. My mom’s actually one of them. I wanted to follow in my mom’s footsteps and pursue a career in medicine.

Sample answer:

However, on rainy days, I’d rather stay indoors, curl up on my bed with a good book, or simply listen to my favorite music. It really helps me recharge for the week ahead.
